How I Accidentally Started Watching It

I started watching Caregiver by accident when we were in Gosford to celebrate our anniversary. It was on the hotel TV as background noise, but then it caught my attention (probably because of Fran’s laughter), and I thought oh my gosh, this is actually really funny.

I didn’t finish the episode, but I filed it away in my brain as something I needed to revisit again, and soon. Since then, I’ve watched an episode or more almost every day. We are now into season three, and my husband is totally hooked too. We laughed so hard the neighbors must have wondered what was going on!

Watching The Caregiver In Today’s World

One of the things that makes it interesting is watching it now and realizing what the PC world is like today. The humor is loud, clear and unfiltered. Some jokes would probably break the internet today and cause a stir.

But please don’t misunderstand. I’m not saying people should be rude or insensitive. Of course, it’s good to be aware of it, but sometimes it’s just classic Caregiver cute, doesn’t mean it’s funny. It’s the kind of humor that many ’90s sitcoms had in common, the kind of over-the-top, hilarious humor that makes you laugh out loud. And it makes me nostalgic for a time when we weren’t so easily offended.

Classic 90s Humor

Haha, I laughed thinking about all the things that make this show funny. Fran is basically a human cartoon who manages to turn almost everything into chaos. And I especially love all the characters whose moments shine. The kids, in particular, were a surprise.

I think they are not good, similar to children Sound of Music at first, but no. They are smart, cheeky, sassy, ​​and sweet all at the same time. Mr. Sheffield is a serious and direct man, but he can be stiff. On the contrary, he is kind, compassionate, and endlessly patient. Then there’s Niles with his dry, sarcastic one-liners, and CC, who is always dramatic and clearly wishes Fran had never left Flushing.

And of course, Yetta and Fran’s moms—gosh, I want to be just like them when I grow up. Ha! I’m sure I would, especially Yetta, who reminds me a bit of my mother with her mischievous humor.

The thing I love most about this show is that they sometimes say the meanest things to each other in the nicest ways, if that makes sense. I think it helps if things just go Fran, and it makes me think we could all take a lesson from her book and not let things get to us. Doesn’t Mel Robbins have a theory about this that’s taking the self-help world by storm—The Let Them Theory? I’d say leave them all alone, just like the Nanny!

Exaggeration Is Everything

The Nanny feels very different from modern comedies because everything is dialed up to the nth degree. Her clothes, her voice, her reactions, her facial expressions, her physical comedy. That’s all fair So addition.

Fran Mode

Then there is fashion. You don’t even have to be a fan Caregiver to know exactly what kind of outrageous style I’m talking about. And I was surprised how much I liked the outfit. This neutral-loving girl loves Fran’s licorice ensembles, bright colors, wild patterns, and leopard print. Good grief!

Why I Keep Watching

It makes me feel good! I know not all of the jokes are particularly funny, and some are a bit corny or dated, but it’s still a lot of fun, with lots of genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. We usually end the day with an episode Seinfeldbut now we finish with Caregiver. My husband believes ending the day in a humorous way is a good thing, and I couldn’t agree more!
