Hi friends, hope you all have a nice weekend. With the holidays over and work starting again tomorrow (waaaahhh!!!), I thought I’d share my five favorite things about summer holidays. And because I’m trying so hard to be positive, I’m also going to share my five favorite things about going back to work.
My Five Favorite Things About Summer Vacation
Time
Oh my gosh, having time to do something is probably my favorite thing. The best feeling is when you know that if you don’t get something done one day, it’s okay, because there’s always the next day… and the next day.
No Alarms
Waking up naturally without an alarm is pure luxury. Tomorrow I’ll go back to setting the three alarms I usually use for 6, 6:30, and 7. Seven is the last hour I can wake up, and it’s always set to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly theme music because if I wake up later than 7, it’s going to be really ugly.
Getting Things Done at Home
I keep a pretty consistent cleaning routine. But there’s nothing better than taking the time to do chores like washing sofa covers and curtains, tidying cupboards, or painting the living room. I think painting the living room is at the top of the list for me this holiday. This is a task I have been putting off for the past few years. So I feel like a true hero checking this one off the list!
Just Being at Home
I’m a homebody, and I’m happy, happy, happy to be home.
Go out
This homebody also loves to travel, so shopping trips in town, dinner dates, even just stopping by the supermarket are fun. Although on these holidays, I spend most of my time at home.
Five Favorite Things About Returning to Work
OK, now onto my five favorite things about going back to work… zero. Oops, I said I should be positive. Let’s go.
I’m Going to See My Work Friends
I work with some pretty great people, and it’s always a treat to meet them. I know I’ll come in tomorrow and there will be lots of hugs and excited chats, and then we’ll start counting down until the next semester break.
Ongoing
I feel like a slug right now, and I know I’ve gained a few pounds. I can’t wait to get back to walking quickly to and from work.
Back to My Favorite Class
This year, I was able to return to the class of my choice. We swap rooms every year, and last year I was in a bigger room, which I didn’t like. It was difficult to arrange tables and chairs, and it was more noisy due to the high ceiling and echoing room. Our center was not built for a specific purpose; it’s actually an old historic building that was converted into a kindergarten in 1950. So I was excited to go back to a smaller, more comfortable classroom.
Healthy Eating
I can’t wait to get back to having fruit for morning tea and salad for lunch. Being at home, it’s tempting to indulge in snacks and snacks throughout the day. I needed a good, forced detox, and getting back to work was the only way.
My New Lunch Box and Water Bottle
Speaking of healthy eating, I got a Kate Spade lunch box and a fancy drink bottle from my boys for Christmas. I love all things food, and now with my favorite new lunch set, I have even more reason to count down the minutes to my favorite part of the workday—the lunch break.
As hard as it is to give up vacation, I am grateful to have a job, my body is still able to handle the demands of being an educator, and I work with some really wonderful people.
Pray for me!
