Hi, friend! It was great to be reunited with Holly and Sarah to share a little about our weekend. Sam, our youngest, celebrated his birthday (which was actually two weeks ago) with a party. Not going to lie, I’m so glad it’s over because the party planning is over road outside my comfort zone. But the good news is that Sam and his friends had a great time, and my house survived the incident! Woohoo!
A few months ago, Sam asked if he could have his 21st birthday party at our house. That’s a reasonable request, except our house, while very comfortable and much to my liking, is more of a cozy, compact space than an entertainer’s home. We thought about the idea of holding it in a pub or restaurant. But he wanted to celebrate at home with his friends.
When we rattled off the list of things we had to do to organize everything, he said, “Mom, don’t worry, everything will be fine. We’ll just order pizza and listen to music.” Bless his positive and relaxed attitude. You and I both know that we will never make it to 21!
We’re all busy with work, studying, and everything in between, and Sam’s laid-back approach is somewhat infectious. Until last Monday, I started to panic! I thought, “Man, we only have a few more days until Friday night’s show!” We all worked hard, ordering things from Amazon, shopping for snacks and drinks, ordering pizza for delivery, and organizing decorations.
We rented some tables and bar stools, and got LED party lights that flashed along with the music. The boombox we wanted was not available. But luckily, my boss was able to lend us his–phew! Then just a little furniture reshuffling, and I thought back to my post about entertaining in small spaces. I stopped panicking, kept going, and it all happened at once.
I stayed the night to give them space to have fun and celebrate. My husband works until 3am, but our oldest son comes in and helps keep things running smoothly. When I got home, I was very impressed with how all the rubbish was put in rubbish bags. And aside from the sticky floors, Sam and his friends had done a fantastic job cleaning up. It was clear they were having a great time, and I couldn’t believe how well they looked after everything.
Honestly, I was expecting total chaos like I’ve seen in movies, so this was a very pleasant surprise. I’ve met most of Sam’s friends and always thought they were good eggs, and their party cleanup efforts proved it! I was also happy to find that the only thing they ended up using from the “just in case” gear I left behind was mosquito repellent.

As well as the party being a huge success, Sam was also spoiled with gifts, which we didn’t expect. He got money, Chanel cologne, and nine of his friends even donated for tickets to Bali. So now he’s off to Bali with them for a week at the end of January 2026, gulp. I’m sure they’ll have a great time, but I’m already looking forward to their safe return.
Happy Monday friends, and thanks so much for stopping by!
