I explore the asylum left behind to capture what the patient will see through their window (30 photos)

I have photographed the pictures of the asylum and mental hospital Victoria and Edwardian who were left since I was first asked to photograph one outside of one as an illustration for a book, in 2008.

The building in question was opened in 1852 and has been abandoned since 1989. While the weather, nature, troublemakers, and robbers of various types have taken victims in the building, still standing impressive, challenging and forbidding. Somehow succeeded in avoiding fires, both unintentional and intentional, which usually ended dozens of other people when they stood waiting for the final assessment of people who had celebrated them as a solution to a variety of medical, moral and social problems, but now it fell alone to sweep them for housing, cars, and shopping malls.

I want to present one aspect that is considered lower; a collection of views of and from Windows in some asylums and mental Hospitals in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Italy, built between 1713 and 1937. These are often the moment I would pause Look and listen, and feel, or believe I could feel, just a little more able to stand in someone else’s shoes for a second. And even if in reality, of course, I do not know how the patient’s own feelings, frames and openings provided by the window means I know I really stand in the right place and see scenes that in some cases almost have not changed at all from what they have seen, sometimes more than two and a half centuries ago.
