I think I live in one of the best suburbs near Sydney, right on the border between two very different environments. This is 14 to 16 kilometers from CBD and only 15 minutes drive to the beach. My streets are calm and lush, but running 10 to 15 minutes and you are in a crowded multicultural city. I like that mixture!
Unique things about where I live – I think I live in one of the best suburbs near Sydney!
Food Choice near Home
We are really spoiled for choices here – this is a paradise for food lovers. Around us, you can find everything ranging from dumplings and pho to Lebanese pizza, sushi, and fresh noodles (which we call Vietnam rolls). And if you want something a little simpler, there are some great pubs where you can get classic chicken or fish and chips. This variation is quite impressive for the suburbs that are not right in the heart of Sydney.
Where I live – and what is right in the corner
The edge of my edge is calm and lush with a little charm of old school. The streets are spacious, and you will find a mixture of old-style houses, including classic California bungalows and red brick houses from the 60s and 70s. (Fun Fact – California bungalow began in California and became popular here in the 1920s.)
Only about the corner is Lydham Hall – one of the oldest houses in the area. The edge of this edge has some real history!
Some blocks away, everything changed. The next suburbs are much busier and more built, with many high -rise apartments and shopping centers.
Very multicultural community
My suburbs are very multicultural, which is quite common in Sydney as a whole. But what makes this area unique is a combination of cultural living so close. We have the Arab community, Macedonia, Greece, Italy and Nepal, for several names.
Right on the border of my streets is the next suburbs, which has been an unofficial Chinatown for the past 20 years. Full of Chinese restaurants and shops. So when I say multicultural, I am really serious! Walking on the road and you might hear five different languages spoken.
Close to the city
We are only about 20 minutes from CBD Sydney by train for me who loves the city. This area is increasingly popular, especially with families with prices outside the city in the city. This is still expensive, but a little less silly.
The small things that I like from where I live
We have several Jacaranda trees in our area, and every spring they explode to bloom the most beautiful purple. There is a nearest garden that has become a popular photo spot. Every year, I promise I will visit the park and take some photos – and every year, I miss the window. Three more months – this time, there is no reason.
After living here 20+ years, a friendly neighbor always greets. I work in a local preschool and often crashes into past and present families. The children I met when I began to be old enough to bring their children to preschool. Gosh – I already exist forever!
Thank you for stopping by! It’s fun to share some unique things about where I live – and why I think it is one of the best suburbs near Sydney. It’s not that I’m biased or anything … Ha!
